What information Cut It Open collects, why, and what you can do about it.

In short

You can read Cut It Open without giving us any personal information. We only collect what you send through the contact form, plus the basic technical data any website receives.

Who we are

Cut It Open (cutitopen.com) publishes explainer articles and short videos about how everyday things work. You can reach us through our contact form.

Information we collect

  • Contact form. When you send us a message we receive your name, email address, the topic you chose and your message. It is stored in our website database and sent to our inbox.
  • Technical data. Like any website, our hosting servers record basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. This is used to keep the site running and secure.

How we use it

We use contact form messages only to reply to you and to handle what you asked for, such as fixing an error or considering a topic you suggested. We do not sell your information and we do not add you to a mailing list.

We keep contact messages for up to 12 months, unless we need them longer to deal with your request, and then delete them.

Cookies

We do not set cookies for visitors who are just reading the site. WordPress, the software the site runs on, sets cookies only for people who log in to manage the site.

Third-party services

  • YouTube. Our Shorts are embedded from YouTube using its privacy-enhanced mode. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press play. Once you do, YouTube (Google) may collect data and set cookies as described in Google's privacy policy.
  • Fonts. Our fonts are stored on our own server, so loading a page does not send your information to a font provider.
  • Advertising and analytics. We do not currently show ads or use analytics tools. If we start, we will update this policy before they go live and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

Your rights

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Depending on where you live, for example in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you may have further rights, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority. To make a request, use our contact form.

Children

Cut It Open is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when the way we handle information changes, and change the date below.
